This William Shakespeare Jr. also invented a way to prevent overruns or backlashes with his braking system. Backlashing is a very common phenomenon that fishermen experience, when they cast their lines, and the spool stops rotating because the line runs off the spool at a too-slow pace or when the line just stops while the spool is still rotating as the lure reaches the water. Now, more than a hundred years later, Shakespeare’s company still makes some of the best baitcasting reels in today’s market, continuing the tradition of excellence and innovation that their founder began in 1897. The Shakespeare baitcasting reel line features five models of baitcasting reels. The Agility low profile baitcaster is equipped with three ball bearing and a one-way clutch instant anti-reverse bearing. It is manufactured out of graphite and has machined aluminum spool and a titanium coated line guide. It also has an adjustable magnetic and mechanical cast control. This Shakespeare baitcast reel is recommended for freshwater use and has a line capacity of one hundred yards. Its gear ratio is 6:3:1 and has a weight of seven point nine ounces.
Similarly, the Shakespeare Dimension baitcasting reel is a five-ball bearing reel, also equipped with a one-way clutch instant anti-reverse bearing system. It is made out of graphite as well and has a Titanium coated line guide. Its magnetic and mechanical cast control is also adjustable. The Dimension also features ported and machined aluminum spool. The Synergy baitcasting reels are also made from graphite and have a gear ratio of 5:1:1. It weighs slightly lighter at seven point six ounces.
Among Shakespeare’s round baitcasting reels is the Catera. The Catera has two ball bearings and a one-way clutch anti-reverse bearing. This is sturdier as it is made from anodized aluminum and has rigid chrome-plated brass pillars. Its spool is machined and anodized aluminum. It has precision machines brass gears, and on and off bait clicker, an adjustable four-pin centrifugal anti-backlash control, and a smooth main gear applied star drag system. The Catera has two versions, one for medium-sized/weight lures and another for large/heavy lures. This baitcaster is made for fresh water conditions and has a gear ratio of 5:1:1.
The SKP3100/4100 round baitcasting reel is also made from anodized aluminum with chrome-plated brass pillars. Available also in medium and heavy versions, this baitcasting reel has a line capacity of one hundred and sixty yards.
The Crappie Hunter 10 and 20 models have a chrome-plated metal frame, a selective on and off bait clicker and an anti-reverse system. These Shakespeare baitcasting reels feature an adjustable spool tension control and a left and right hand retrieve. These reels are made for light weight lures and have a line capacity of either two hundred and thirty or one hundred yards. Its gear ratios are 1:0:1 and 4:0:1 respectively.
What seems to be missing from Shakespeare fishing reels line are baitcasters that will do well in salt water conditions. They also have very limited reels for heavy lures. Nevertheless, they still manage to make durable and high quality reels that are worth checking out.
